Understanding the process.

What is the J-1 Summer Work Travel program?

A U.S. cultural exchange program for eligible international university students. Participants may work in qualifying temporary or seasonal jobs, subject to requirements managed by designated sponsors.

Does Sumeria sponsor visas?

No. Sumeria does not issue visas, provide immigration sponsorship, issue DS-2019 forms or approve placements. Those program functions are handled by the appropriate U.S. authorities and designated sponsors.

Can any seasonal position qualify?

No. Under 22 CFR § 62.32(h) and (i), sponsors must verify that roles are seasonal or temporary, provide cultural interaction, do not displace U.S. workers, and do not fall into excluded categories (such as domestic help in private homes, clinical care involving patient contact, or work predominantly between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM).

Are there fees or incentives paid to U.S. employers?

U.S. employers are never paid incentives to accept exchange visitors, which is strictly prohibited under 22 CFR § 62.32(g)(1). Submitting an inquiry on this site is free and creates no obligation; any subsequent program paperwork is handled directly with the designated sponsor.
